Monterey Bay Rowing sponsored Row Hard, No Excuses at the Santa Cruz Film Festival, May 9th
At 51 and 41, John Zeigler and Tom Mailhot are among the oldest competitors to participate in the Atlantic Rowing Challenge, a three thousand mile race from the Canary Islands to Barbados. They spend three years (and personal savings) to make their dream of winning possible, but once on the water, their boat and their bodies don't respond as they'd imagined. Drawing from their compelling video diary at sea, the film engages the audience in the emotional challenges and rewards of their arduous journey. The unique perspective of Tori Murden, the first woman to row solo across an ocean, and the diverse chorus of other teams-men and women, young and old-add context to a meditation on shattered expectations and the pursuit of happiness.
The film was followed by a very informative Q&A featuring Filmmaker Luke Wolbach and Ocean Rower Roz Savage, about 2 weeks before Roz left for a solo row across the Pacific Ocean. More about Roz Savage

March 22-23, 2008 - The ECHO tours the Russian River
Once again the Echo is the perfect tour boat. Kelly Kirkpatrick skillfully piloted the Santa Cruz Rowing Club Echo down the Russian River from Monte Rio to Jenner (9.69 miles) twice during the recent Santa Cruz Rowing Club Easter Tour. Kelly transported the boat to and from the river atop her Ford Focus with roof racks, including 2 trips through San Francisco and over the Golden Gate Bridge. No muss, no fuss!
September 1-8, 2007 - The ECHO tours the Willamette River in Oregon
The Echo is the perfect boat for river touring. While all the other participants have to worry about their skegs and riggers, the Echo can be placed on the river bank at breaks with little fuss. And easy to load on the trailer with other boats, as there are not riggers sticking out!
August 18, 2007 - Echos Cross Monterey Bay AGAIN!
This time, Sandy Wallace, Judi Jensen and Rick Tozer row the boats.
August 19, 2006 - Echos Cross Monterey Bay for the First Time
The Santa Cruz Rowing Club hosted the 30th Monterey Bay Crossing, a 22-nautical-mile race from Santa Cruz Harbor to Monterey Harbor on August 19th. For the first time, the field of competitors included 3 Echos - rowed by Judi Jensen, Kelly Kirkpatrick and Sandy Wallace.

July 29, 2006 - 17-Mile Row in Monterey Bay

Our first 17-Mile Row launched at sunrise without a hitch.
The course began in Santa Cruz harbor and traversed through 17.2 miles of favorite rowing destinations on the Bay.
Though only three of us Echo rowers were available to row that day, we enjoyed absolutely perfect conditions: flat, glassy, water and only enough wind to cool us off.
Since there was no need to rush, we rowed our fast training speed between destinations and then enjoyed long rests. Next stop is 25.3 (22 nautical) miles across the Monterey Bay on August 19th.
June 10, 2006 - National Learn to Row Day, Santa Cruz, CA
We had a successful day at Santa Cruz Rowing Club in the wonderful Santa Cruz Harbor. The club's Echo was used as a demo boat to teach beginning rowing to our 30 or so members of the community who showed up to experience rowing. Thanks everyone for coming and for your interest in learning to row.

April 1, 2006 - Echo Tour on Monterey Bay - A Great Day!
Five Echos made the trip from Santa Cruz Harbor to Capitola, where we beached our boats and had breakfast. After a nice break, we rowed back to Santa Cruz. Many thanks to our attendees (pictured below). Stay tuned for more events.
