Thank you for visiting Monterey Bay Rowing. We are authorized dealers of Echo Rowing shells as well as rowing enthusiasts. This web site has been created to provide information on two of our favorite subjects -- rowing on Monterey Bay and Echo boats.
We're very fortunate to live and row in the Monterey Bay area. We do have storms, but since the water doesn't get cold enough to freeze, rowing is basically year-round here.
Despite the beauty and generally great weather here, the ocean is powerful and unpredictable and we must always exercise caution. Echo shells handle the rough stuff and the calmer days too. They're easy to handle and they're comfortable to row.
Why Echo?
Whether you row on oceans, rivers or lakes, Echo Rowing shells provide exceptional stability. There are very few singles that a beginner can just get into and start rowing. When rowers feel comfortable in a boat, they are more likely to relax, row better, and enjoy the experience.
At our rowing club, it has made a tremendous difference to have an Echo available for novice rowers. However, this is not just a beginner boat. With several years of rowing experience, and the option to row a variety of boats, we choose to row Echos rather than other shells. The simple, elegant design makes each outing a snap. The folding riggers and molded keel make the Echo easy to transport and store without worrying about damage to the riggers and skeg. The edges of the boat are easy to grab and provide several hand-holds, and the boat can be launched from virtually anywhere -- sand, gravel, docks, concrete platforms, you name it.
